HBO and game developers Behaviour Interactive and GAEA Technology just announced their partnership to create a strategy iOS game based on the TV series. There aren't many details on exactly what the game will be, but Game of Thronesis ripe for adaptations into actual gaming worlds.
I mean, it's already in the title, right?
One thing we do know is that it'll be a "free-to-play" mobile game. Now, those words are usually enough to send many running for the hills with PTSD flashbacks to Farmville.

They're also currently developing a similar one for Ubisoft's console franchise, Assassin's Creed. Meanwhile, Chinese developer GAEA Technology is being brought on to scale the game for a global market.
In a statement, CEO and executive producer at Behaviour Interactive, Rémi Racine, said:
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us as game developers to work on a brand that we admire and respect as fans. Game of Throneshas captivated audiences from around the world, and we truly believe that, with HBO, we can deliver on the high expectations that the show commands.
The creative director of the studio, Justin Jones, called Game of Thrones, “a modern masterpiece — portraying one of the most profound works of fantasy world building in existence." Describing the team as "ardent fans," he added that, "We cannot get enough of the world, its characters, or the endless theories that its many prophecies generate."
But you don't even have to wait for this untitled mobile game in order to take part.

Years before it was an HBO phenomenon, the books were adapted into a beloved (if extremely in-depth and long-winded) board game where you play as different houses vying for conquest and survival across the Seven Kingdoms. Some evenpoint to the board game as an inspiration for the now iconic 3D map of Westeros seen in the show's opening title sequence.
Perhaps most interestingly, though, is the episodic series by Telltale (the studio behind the award-winning Walking Deadvideo game adaptations based on the comic books). While the game's execution garnered mixed reviews, the premise is tantalizing: you play as one of the minor houses who've always served as loyal Stark bannermen, until everything is thrown into upheaval in the north.
Using Telltale's choose-your-own-adventure format, you make difficult moral decisions as a variety of characters from the family. Your dialogue choices have dire consequences, shaping the outcome (meaning the survival or demise) of your house. You even get to interact with the show's main characters, all voiced by the original actors.
But of course, winter comes for us all — whether you're in the harsh northern lands of Winterfell, or lounging on your couch.
